# Kick Standard Accounts

See the default chart of accounts Kick sets up for each entity type and what you can change on its accounts.

Kick sets up a default chart of accounts for every business, built to map to the tax form for its entity type. You can add your own accounts and groups on top of it in the [CoA Editor](/accountants/setting-up/chart-of-accounts/coa-editor.md).

### Accounts by entity type

The entity type decides which equity and owner accounts Kick includes, because a sole proprietor, a partnership, and a corporation each record ownership differently. The rest of Kick's accounts are the same for every entity type.

| Entity type | Equity accounts | Owner accounts |
| -------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Sole Proprietorship, LLC (single owner), No legal entity | Owner Investments, Owner Capital, Owner Draws | Loans to Owner, Loans from Owner, Insurance - Owner. ### What you can change

On most Kick accounts you can:

* Rename the account (use **Revert to default name** to restore the original Kick name)
* Edit the **Code**
* Archive the account
* Delete the account, unless it holds a role tied to automations

You cannot change its type. Archive it if you do not want it in dropdowns, or merge it into another account in the [CoA editor](/accountants/setting-up/chart-of-accounts/coa-editor.md#merge).

### Accounts with a role

Kick automations need a specific general ledger account for things like uncategorized cash, transfer matching, invoices, payroll, and owner activity. Those roles sit on Kick accounts by default. If you want that automation to post somewhere else, reassign the role to another account.

You cannot archive or delete an account that currently holds a role. Reassign the role first, or merge the account into another one, which moves the role with it.

Account names can vary by entity type.

| Account | Type | What Kick uses it for |

### Reassign a role

Use **Reassign role** in the CoA editor when you want Kick automations to post to a different account than the one that holds the role today. See [CoA Editor](/accountants/setting-up/chart-of-accounts/coa-editor.md#reassign-role).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.kick.co/accountants/setting-up/chart-of-accounts/kick-standard-accounts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
