Activity

Full visibility and control over every change.

Overview

The Activity tab is Kick's built-in audit log. It records every change made to your transactions and accounting data with timestamps and attribution, so you can review who changed what and when.

Activity tab layout

The Activity tab includes four columns:

  • Date: The exact timestamp of when the change occurred, displayed in your local time zone down to the minute.

  • Updated By: Who or what made the change (see the "Updated By" section below).

  • Activity: A description of what changed.

  • Entity: The entity associated with the change.

Who makes updates (Updated By)

Every log entry records who or what triggered the change:

Workspace members

Any update made by a person on your team is recorded under their name.

Kick (automated)

Automated updates from Kick, including categorization, counterparty changes, transfer matching, and document processing, are attributed to Kick.

Kick Support

Changes made by Kick Support appear under Kick Support.

Integrations

If your account is connected to a direct integration (Plaid, Ramp, BILL, PayPal, Stripe, Mercury, Gusto), transactions synced through that integration display the integration's logo as the source.

Rules

When a rule updates a transaction automatically, the change is attributed to Rule.

Types of activity logs

The Activity tab captures logs for actions taken on the Transactions and Accounting tabs, including:

  • Category Updates: Any time a transaction's category is changed

  • Transaction Sync Updates: Logs generated when transactions are synced from a connected integration

  • Transaction Status Updates: Recorded when a transaction status changes, such as moving from Pending to Posted

  • Counterparty Updates: Any assignment or change to a vendor or customer on a transaction

  • Cash ledger updates: Changes made to cash ledger assignments

  • Split Updates: Logged whenever a transaction is split or un-split

  • Reconciliation: Records when an account is reconciled, including the account name and the period it was reconciled for

  • Manual Journal Entry Creation & Updates: Journal entry changes that cross out the previous description, amount, or account and highlight the new value in light blue

  • Entity Updates: Logged when a transaction is moved between two entities

  • Transfer Matches: Recorded when transactions are matched across accounts, as well as when a match is removed

  • Memo Updates: Any time a memo is added or changed on a transaction

Timestamps & time zones

All activity logs are displayed in your local time zone, timestamped to the exact minute the change occurred.

Filter the Activity log

Filter the Activity log using:

  • Date: Narrow logs to a specific date range.

  • Updated by: Filter by team member, integration, Kick, Kick Support, or Rule.

  • All activity: Filter by object and field (for example, transaction, journal entry, or category).

  • All actions: Filter by Created, Updated, Deleted, or Reverted.

  • Entity: Filter by entity.

  • Clear filters: Reset all active filters.

Example: To review all changes made by a junior bookkeeper last month, filter by their name and the relevant date range.

Take action from a log

You can act directly from the Activity tab:

  • Undo changes: Reverse an update directly from the log entry.

  • Edit transactions and journal entries: Click through from a log entry to the linked transaction or journal entry to make updates.
